Long Ducker 2006 adds over £40,000 to Tsunami Relief Fund
This year's Long Ducker event in November raised money in aid of the Harrow Tsunami Relief Fund. This annual event held at Harrow School includes a twenty-mile run from Harrow's Bill Yard down to Marble Arch and back, a ten-mile run or walk from Marble Arch back to the School, swimming, rowing and climbing endurance events. So far the event has raised £43,900 for the Tsunami Fund.
Over six hundred entered the running events, while many others were competing in the pool, on the ergo machines or on the climbing wall. Nearly all Harrow's teaching staff (as well as many non-teaching staff and boys' parents) were engaged in helping on the day, acting as marshals, lap counters, kit collectors, cheer-leaders, photographers, administrators, result collectors, minibus drivers, traffic wardens, water stations, safety instructors, first aid, reception or bike support.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner handed out the medals and prizes to those taking part and the winners of each event. The Tsunami Relief Fund now stands at £475,000, a phenomenal achievement by all its supporters and fundraisers.

Fund tops £330,000 as major project comes to an end
The Tsunami Relief Fund has raised over £337,500 as Vidyaloka College opens for business once again.
A new three-storey class room block, canteen, gymnasium, pavilion and toilet blocks were constructed as part of the re-building of the College, partially destroyed in the tsunami, in addition to repairs to all other remaining buildings. The school has also been furnished with equipment and furniture worth approximately LKR 6 million.
The Hirdaramani Group presented the new three-storey building to the Vidyaloka College, Galle, at a simple ceremony held on the 12th January 2006.
"It's a pleasure to see the enthusiasm of the school authorities and the students towards learning," said Nikhil Hirdaramani. "Such attitudes help us to work harder to see this project reach completion."
The grand official opening of the college will be held at the end of March 2006.
